Bicentennial Echoes: Getting the American Birthday Right

America’s last big birthday–the Bicentennial of 1976–offers a sharp contrast to the ongoing USA250 events. In this talk, Dr Karl Brooks, KU historian and public affairs professor, will discuss how President Gerald Ford took a different approach in 1976, which made the Bicentennial a community-centered celebration, in which America’s immigrant heritage took center stage.
